to take refuge in nature, apparently so inarticulate.”

A STORY TO BE TOLD
“How intense can be the longing to escape from the emptiness and dullness of human verbosity,
to take refuge in nature, apparently so inarticulate.”
(Boris Pasternak)
The traditional Aeolian house looks out over the sea from above, as if to spread its wings to dive into the horizon.
At the same time it is rooted, as rock on the rock, built on a millenary lava flow where the steady rhythm of the volcano speaks of age-old myths and legends to those who know how to listen. It is a house with an ancient soul, a rustic, spartan house, where even arriving requires a bit of effort to ascend the unpaved footpath.
Here the absence of connection is an invitation to take back possession of one’s own time, rediscovering the wonder of being part of nature and not extraneous to it.
The house is composed in the traditional style, with large spaces that connect by relating to each other by means of roofs, stairs and terraces: their history lives on silently in the breathing of these walls.
The intention was to maintain its original essence as much as possible, rethinking the three large rooms as independent studios, each equipped with a private bathroom, a kitchenette and a terrace overlooking the sea or the volcano. Not a “home for tourists” therefore, but rather a “home for travellers”.
